Any Kiwi's in Frankfurt??

Will be moving to Frankfurt to be with my boyfriend in a couple of months time. Don't want to rely on his friends as want my own social life. Question 1: any hints/tips on how to meet people, places to go etc? I am planning on taking a certified year long German language course as have been told you get an extension on your visa if you can prove you are doing this. Question 2: anyone else in similar situation know if this is correct? how easy is it to get work visas after this??
I have loads of questions, but will start with these. Thanks in advance.
