Banking in Germany

21 years ago
For all of you out there who are expats in Germany... what has been your experience with banking? We have been looking through the banking and finance section here, contacted some of the banks listed, but have gotten very poor response. I'm wondering...
* Do you keep an American account for U.S. transactions (I'm a U.S. citizen) and open a second German account for German transactions?
* Is there a reliable "international" personal banking option out there that we just can't find?
* Have you eliminated your U.S. bank account entirely and opened a German account?
* Any other options?
I'm looking for any advice on the pros and cons of any of the approaches listed aboved. Currently I do most of my day-to-day banking (savings, checking, etc) through a local credit union and I'm not looking for much more beyond that level of service from an international perspective.

Can anyone offer advice?

Thanks, in advance,
--Jenn
