Moving Family to Wiesbaden

Hello, My husband has the opportunity to transfer to a job in the Wiesbaden/Frankfurt area. I have some concerns about moving our family, but I am excited about the chance to live in another country!

Here are my concerns and maybe you have some advice for us.

We have 4 children, ages 3, 5, 13 and 15. I have been homeschooling my eldest two children for the past 4 years. Both have special needs, academically and emotionaly due to adoption from foster care at ages 4 and 6. The school system was unable to handle their issues and homeschooling has worked well. I understand that homeschooling is illegal in Germany but am working to get permission. My 15 year old will be only a few months from the end of mandatory school when we move and is doing a diploma program via correspondance in the US. My 13 year old has significant academic delays and requires homeschooling. My 5 year old will be 6 when we move...but I will continue to homeschool her until the mandatory age for school in Germany and see if we can do so after that.

While the company will probably meet most of our expenses, I have concerns about finding a house large enough for a family of 6! We have been told that outside the city might be a good place too look. Is anyone familiar with the area and can give us som names of places to search? Can we find housing in the internet?

Also, our youngest child, also adopted but at birth, is multiracial, African-American/Native American/Caucasion. The rest of us are caucasion. How will she be treated in Germany? We currently live in the southern US and while we have had some negative experiences, overall, there are many multiracial/biracial children here.

And the important one..laughs...What is internet connection like in the Wiesbaden area or outside the city? I work online for a company in Britain and need to have unlimited cable or DSL connection in my home.

I have so many more questions but they are just to long to ask here! My kids are busy filling notebooks with questions. :)

Do any of you have children of similar ages-early elementary to teens? I would love to contact some families in the Wiesbaden area who might be willing to share more info with us. Feel free to contact us at [email protected].

Thanks so much!

Laura
