Dear all, I am new here and very new to Germany. My company is transferring me to Wolfsburg for 2 years. I am from Asia (Hong Kong), and am a single female. I don't speak any German. I am told that most expats working in Wolfsburg choose not to live there as the city can be quite boring and one e ds up getting pretty depressed if they are single. I was told that most of my expat colleagues are living in nearby cities or even Berlin. I am moving in April and based on what I have read on the Internet so far, I am thinking about either Hanover or Braunschweig, the former because it seems quite lively and yet not too far from Wolfsburg (30 mins on ICE), and the latter because it seems like a charming and cultural city.
Please give me your opinion and advice:
- I need to make new friends asap
- I need to feel safe living alone
- I need somewhere a non-German speaker can live relatively easily
- Relative convenience to work
If I am not asking too much, any advice on how best to meet new friends, as a non-German speaking Asian, would be greatly appreciated! :-)
Peggy
