I’ve flown all over the world, but as I age I’ve taken to hating being cooped up in cattle cars. I’m thinking fo moving to the Philippines mid-2020, and I’m thinking taking one or two or three slow freighters to Cebu. Has anyone else done this or know of anyone who has done I can talk to?

I heard if that kind of travel years ago. I figured as a liability nowadays it would not be permitted

Freighter traffic is usually long haul and is relatively common. However, I don't think it is much of a thing between Philippine ports. When the longest flight within the country is less than 2 hours; I would prefer to just get on the plane for an hour and get where I'm going. Here are a couple links to world travel by freighter.

If you mean travel between Philippine ports, yes, I've done it.
It is not the worst way to travel, but if doing it again, I'd want a couple of things that make it easier than in the past.

1. Get a private "stateroom." This is probably not the stateroom you've seen elsewhere, and you may end up with a couple of empty bunks, but the price is painless.
2. Know in advance that there probably will be no hot water for showering/shaving.
3. Realize that the safety record of these companies isn't exactly what you'd see from Maersk or other major cargo carriers.
4. You can "luck out" and get an excellent meal, but not most of the time.

The best sleep of my life was on an overnight trip from Ozamiz to Cebu. However, that ship is now at the bottom of the S. China Sea.

They forgot that the heavy stuff goes below!
