Is the cost of living in Old Road high?

We asked people how much they someone comfortably live on in Old Road, they wrote:

"The cost of living in Old Road is considered to be relatively high compared to other Caribbean islands. This is largely due to the fact that most goods and services have to be imported, which increases their cost. Housing is one of the most significant expenses, with rental prices varying greatly depending on the location and size of the property. Properties closer to the beach or in more desirable areas are generally more expensive. Groceries are also quite costly in Old Road, as most food items are imported. Fresh fruits, vegetables, and local fish can be less expensive, but imported goods, such as dairy products, meat, and packaged foods, can be quite pricey. Transportation costs can also add up, especially if one chooses to own a car. Gasoline prices are high, and there are additional costs for maintenance and insurance. Public transportation is available and is a more affordable option, but it may not be as convenient. Eating out, entertainment, and leisure activities can also be expensive, especially in tourist areas. However, there are also plenty of free or low-cost activities available, such as hiking, swimming, and exploring the island's natural beauty. Healthcare is another significant expense, especially for those without insurance. While the quality of healthcare is generally good, the cost can be high, particularly for specialized treatments or procedures. Overall, while the cost of living in Old Road, Antigua & Barbuda can be high, many residents feel that the island's natural beauty, relaxed lifestyle, and friendly community make it worth the cost," said one expat in Old Road.
