Summary: The most desirable neighborhoods in San Salvador, El Salvador are Escalon, Santa Tecla, and Santa Elena. The average cost to buy a nice 2 bedroom home in these neighborhoods is around $150,000 USD, while a nice 3 bedroom home can cost around $200,000 USD. These properties typically include modern amenities such as air conditioning, stainless steel appliances, and updated bathrooms. Foreigners are allowed to own property in San Salvador, but there are certain restrictions. For example, foreigners are not allowed to own land within 50 kilometers of the coast or within 10 kilometers of the border. The best way for an expat to search for a home to buy in San Salvador is to use a real estate agent. A real estate agent can help you find the right property for your needs and budget, and can also provide you with information about the local market and the legal requirements for purchasing a property.

How do I find a place to live in San Salvador?

We asked expats how they chose their neighborhood and found a place to live. They answered:

"One of the best ways to find a place to live in San Salvador is to search online for rental listings. Websites such as Encuentra24.com, Vivanuncios.com, and Encuentra24.sv are great resources for finding apartments, houses, and other rental properties in the area. Additionally, you can also search for rental listings on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Additionally, you can also ask friends and family who live in the area for recommendations. Finally, you can also contact local real estate agents who specialize in rental properties in San Salvador," said one person in San Salvador.
