Moving to the Philippines from the UK

Can anyone please advise: if I move to the Philippines to live, but retain a property in the UK, is it a good idea to declare myself officially an expat, or not? Or should I remain a UK resident officially, and spend xxx days in the UK? What are the tax implications of each option? I would like to retain bank acounts etc in the UK. Any advice gratefully received.
