Metal detecting the beaches in Philippines

I'm considering moving within the year to either the Philippines or maybe Thailand. My question is, has anybody witnessed foreigners metal detecting the beaches any place over there? Also, would it be a safe thing to do in your opinion? This is my hobby and would hope to find expats who enjoy it as well. Also, what areas would be the best to move to for beaches where lost jewelry would be plentiful and also somewhat safe?
