Hi I am also a home school parent. There is no law pertaining to home schooling in Jamaica but the Ministry of Education facilitates home schooling. There is a form that folks fill out and submit voluntarily. https://www.facebook.com/groups/HomeschoolJamaica/

Yes I am currently homeschooling a high school student (8th grade) on the Abeka program. I also have been in the education arena for 8 years, teaching several subjects and as an administrator. I am looking to have other students join in the program.

We are from Florida and live in Jamaica now. Homeschooling is so much fun here and the kids love it. There are so many great lessons to teach a child here and hiring tutors is pretty cheap as well. You can find music teachjers and lots of others to work her for a lot less than back in the states.

We are a homeschooling family (in Florida) and will be moving to JA in the near future. I am interested in any information about homeschooling in JA that anyone has.
Thanks.

I am investigating the legality of homeschooling for Jamaican residents. I am a former homeschooler--kids all grown-and have friends who are citizens fo Jamaica and wish to start a residence for Jamaican orphans/waifs and homeschool them. They are looking at starting with preschoolers. Can you provide any contact information in Jamaica as to how to comply with Jamaican education law? I have reviewed the Ministry of Education website and found no information. Thanks

Hello sjhk,
I am a Jamaican who lived in North America for a few years. I moved back here about a year ago and we decided to home school my 4 year old. So far we have not had any problems with the local authorities.
The answer to your concerns would depend on how long you will be living in Jamaica. Our formal educational system is a lot different from the one in the U.S. for instance the kids here are required to sit an exam at around age 11 or 12 and depending on the scores r placed in the Public High School, ranging form the lowest to highest standard. On the other hand there are a few private schools which are not governed by these rules.
Hope i could help,
Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions and i wiil do my best to help.

There are schools that are similiar. Are you familiar with the ACE education program? There are some schools that offer that program in Jamaica so you could speak to someone with ACE and get some advice.
My children will be going to such a school it is the same education that one would get in the US however it also offers Christian teaching and such.
