Parent's Review of American School of Paris in St. Cloud, France

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

American School of Paris

In what town or city is this school located?

St. Cloud

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

American style school

What grade levels are represented at this school?

pre-K through High School

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most children use the private bus routes osganized by the school. The stops are convenient if you live on the West side of Paris or in the Western suburbs.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are fine. There is a campus with two gymnasiums and a large field. The school divides into Lower, Middle, and Upper schools basically according to building. Extra curricular activities that I know of are Music(band, choral, etc), Sports(Competetive,Intramural) including football.(soccer),baseball,swimming,tennis,basketball. The school stages plays and musicals with the lower and upper schools. There are also opportunities for scouting(Boy scouts,Brownies,Girl Scouts)

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

The schools curriculum closely matches that of a suburban public school in the North Eastern US. (where we come from). I know of no program to prepare for repatriation.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There is a very active PFA and other support organizations for the school (Music, Sports, Library). Parents are welcomed at the school and an extension program offers cultural and educational programs for adults.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

This a truly American-style school. My children were very comfortable from day one at the school. A student buddy welcomed them and they were off with a smile. This is not a bilingual school but French is taught daily. We are happy with our children at The ASP. For those that will only be here briefly this school will allow the kids to return to the US with little problem academically.
