I am a doctoral student at Fielding Graduate Institute in the School of Human and Organizational Development (HOD) and I am presently beginning a research study on the experience of underemployment (feeling or being underutilized) in corporate repatriates and am seeking participants for my study. I will be exploring underemployment in repatriated corporate employees through the experiences of repatriates and managers who are responsible for international assignments. I was wondering if you or others youo know would qualify for the study and be interested in participating. If so, if you are interested contact me at [email protected]. If you know of others who might be interested please pass this along or send me their contact information.
The study:
Participants for the study must work for companies that meet the following criteria:
o Global corporations with an annual revenue in the U.S. of at least $1 billion;
o Global companies who have a regional headquarters in the United States;
o Global companies who have at least 500 employees in the United States.
My research interest is to understand the experience of repatriates who returned from assignment during the past 3 years and considered themselves to be underutilized, or underemployed, for a period of more than 3 months after the first 2 months of return to the United States. I am only interested in those who chose to stay with their companies. Research shows that up to 50% of repatriates leave their companies during the first 3 years after their repatriation. One of my interests in this study is to learn from those who remained with their companies, even though they experienced underemployment upon return. Through this research I hope to identify ways that companies and repatriates can overcome the challenge of underemployment (feeling or being underutilized) after overseas assignments, thereby enhancing retention of these valuable resources.
I am interested in both repatriates and the managers of overseas assignments. To maintain total anonymity and confidentiality for the participants in the study please do not tell me to whom, if anyone, you submitted my summary and request. Similarly, I will not tell you who contacted me or chose to participate. Please feel free to send this e-mail to others in your field that you think would be interested and could contact potential participants. Please also feel free to post this summary and request for participants to any electronic bulletin boards frequented by repatriates, managers of international assignment programs, or other professionals like you.
Thank you for your consideration.
Kind regards,
