"Before retiring abroad, it is important to research the cost of living, healthcare and entertainment options in the country to ensure a comfortable lifestyle. It is also beneficial to be open to learning a new language and culture and to establish relationships with other ex-pats. Think of the climate that best suits your needs and explore the process of gaining access to expat support services and resources. Finally, safety is paramount, so make sure to consider crime rates, political stability and look for areas that have a majority of other expats," said one retiree in Las Terrenas.
