What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Stellenbosch?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Stellenbosch about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in South Africa. Stellenbosch has a number of good hospitals and clinics, but you should research and choose a healthcare provider that suits your needs and preferences. Secondly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who can provide support and guidance throughout your pregnancy and childbirth. They can help navigate the healthcare system and ensure you receive the best possible care. Thirdly, make sure you understand the legal requirements for registering the birth of your child in South Africa. This includes obtaining a birth certificate and, if necessary, ensuring your child's citizenship status. Fourthly, consider joining local parenting groups or expat communities in Stellenbosch. They can provide valuable advice, support, and friendship during this exciting but challenging time. Fifthly, ensure you have a good understanding of the cost of having a baby in South Africa. This includes medical costs, but also the cost of baby items, childcare, and potentially private schooling in the future. Lastly, remember to take time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Stellenbosch. Having a baby can be stressful, but the natural beauty of the area can provide a wonderful backdrop for relaxation and family time," commented one expat who made the move to Stellenbosch, South Africa.
