What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Franschhoek?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Franschhoek about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the healthcare system in South Africa. Private healthcare in South Africa is of a high standard, so consider investing in a good health insurance plan that covers maternity costs. Secondly, you should find a good obstetrician or midwife who you feel comfortable with. They can guide you through the process and provide you with the necessary prenatal care. Thirdly, it's advisable to plan your hospital stay well in advance. Franschhoek is a small town and may not have a maternity hospital, so you might need to travel to a nearby city like Cape Town for the delivery. Fourthly, consider taking prenatal classes. They can provide valuable information and help you prepare for the birth. Fifthly, make sure you understand the legal requirements for registering the birth of your child in South Africa. As expats, there may be additional paperwork to complete. Lastly, try to connect with other expat parents in the area. They can provide support, share their experiences, and give advice on raising a child in Franschhoek," commented one expat who made the move to Franschhoek, South Africa.
