What advice do overseas retirees have for others considering retiring abroad?
When we asked what advice they have for others considering retiring abroad, they advised...
"It is important to ask yourself what you want out of retirement before deciding where to retire. Research different countries, locations, and any constraints you may have, such as language or cultural barriers. Visit the potential locations in person, if possible, to get a better feel. When you have chosen a location, create a budget, obtain the necessary visas, research healthcare options, and get advice from professionals. Additionally, if you are considering moving to a location with a different language and/or culture, learn about the language and culture before you relocate. Make sure to budget for transportation, storage, and communication costs, as well as for any taxes and fees that may apply. Have an emergency plan and be prepared for any incidents that may arise. Lastly, consider that you may need to return to your home country for medical care and/or to be with family and friends," wrote a member who made the move to Gurgaon, India.
