Parent's Review of Seoul Foreign School in Seoul, Korea

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Seoul Foreign School

In what town or city is this school located?

Seoul

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

Western-supposedly

What grade levels are represented at this school?

K-12

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Bus

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Pool, gym, older school building, astro turf soccer field they are all very proud of. At the British school, extracurricular activities are included in tuition. At Seoul Foreign, you have to pay about $200 or more extra per extra-curricular activity.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Nothing at all. There are no safety net programs. There are occasional "counselor" or "principal" chats, and they will tell you, "We want to hear your comments and how we can improve," but they don't mean it; and God help you if you ever have a real problem. You will meet with people living in bubbles. They read that SFS is "the most prestigious foreign school in Korea," and they feel their school is perfect; You are the problem. Deal with it. These are the administrators, counselor, and many teachers, unfortunately, who feel this way.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Not much. Yes there is a PTA.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Don't. Go to the British school instead. Do not go to Seoul Foreign School. The environment is one of bullying and cliques. Your child, if she or he is nice, or your children will come home in tears every day, as all the nice children do at SFS. Your entire family will suffer, and you will find your life is ruined for however long your child or children are enrolled.
