What advice do you have for expats having a baby in London?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in London about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Go with the flow and relax. Communicate and discuss.
So many people will look after you with that one midwife you don't get on with should not colour your vision of the whole team and experience or country.
I am gutted our next child will not be born there," said another expat in London, UK.

"1. Make sure to research the different types of maternity care available in the UK, such as midwife-led care, consultant-led care, and home birth. 2. Consider joining a local antenatal class to meet other expectant parents and learn more about pregnancy and childbirth. 3. Make sure to register with a local GP and hospital as soon as possible to ensure you have access to the best care during your pregnancy. 4. Consider joining a local parenting group or online forum to get advice and support from other parents. 5. Make sure to take advantage of the free NHS antenatal care and postnatal support available to all expectant parents in the UK. 6. Consider hiring a doula or birth companion to provide additional support during labour and delivery. 7. Make sure to research the different types of childcare available in the UK, such as nurseries, childminders, and nannies. 8. Consider joining a local breastfeeding support group to get advice and support from other breastfeeding mothers. 9. Make sure to take advantage of the free NHS immunisations available to all children in the UK. 10. Consider joining a local playgroup or toddler group to meet other parents and give your child the opportunity to socialise with other children," wrote a member who made the move to London, England.
