What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Antibes?
We asked expat moms who gave birth in Antibes about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...
"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the French healthcare system, which is one of the best in the world. Pregnant women in France are well cared for, with regular check-ups and ultrasounds as standard. Ensure that you have the correct health insurance coverage. If you are working in France, you will be covered by the French social security system, which covers most of the costs related to pregnancy and childbirth. Find a good obstetrician or midwife who speaks your language if you're not comfortable with French. Many doctors in Antibes speak English due to the large expat community. Consider hiring a doula if you want extra support during your pregnancy and birth. They can provide emotional and physical support, as well as help you navigate the French healthcare system. Start looking into maternity hospitals or clinics early on in your pregnancy. In France, you can choose to give birth in a public hospital, a private clinic, or at home. Take advantage of the French maternity leave policies. France has very generous maternity leave, allowing you to take time off both before and after the birth. Sign up for prenatal classes. These are a great way to prepare for childbirth and parenthood, and can also be a good way to meet other expectant parents in Antibes. Finally, enjoy the experience. Having a baby in a foreign country can be a wonderful adventure. Take the time to soak up the French culture and lifestyle, and introduce your new baby to it as well," wrote a member who made the move to Antibes, France.
