What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in George. They wrote...

"Expats in George may find the local language, Afrikaans, challenging to learn and understand, as it is widely spoken in the region. They may also struggle with understanding and adapting to local customs and traditions, which can be quite different from their own. The pace of life in George is slower than in many Western countries, which can be frustrating for those used to a faster, more hectic lifestyle. Additionally, expats may find it difficult to navigate the local bureaucracy, which can be complex and time-consuming. The high crime rate in South Africa can also be a concern for expats, making personal safety a constant worry. Lastly, racial tensions and economic inequality, which are prevalent issues in South Africa, can also be challenging for expats to navigate and understand," remarked another expat in George, South Africa.
