"Expats in Gimpo often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture. Korean is a complex language to learn, and while many locals do speak English, there are still many who do not. Another challenge is the difference in social norms and etiquette. Korean culture places a strong emphasis on respect and hierarchy, which can be difficult for foreigners to navigate. Food can also be a challenge for some expats, as Korean cuisine is quite different from Western food. It is heavily based on rice, vegetables, and meats, and includes a variety of fermented foods like kimchi. The work culture in Korea is also very different, with long hours and a strong emphasis on loyalty to the company. This can be a difficult adjustment for expats used to a more balanced work-life culture. Lastly, the high level of technology and fast-paced lifestyle can be overwhelming for some. Korea is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the world, and this is evident in every aspect of life, from transportation to shopping," said a member in Gimpo, Korea.
