What is it like to retire in Flores?
We asked retirees what it is like retiring in Flores. They said...
"Life for a retiree in Flores can be quite peaceful and culturally enriching. The city is known for its tranquil atmosphere, beautiful lake views, and charming cobblestone streets. While there isn't a large expat community in Flores, there are a number of foreigners who have chosen to retire in this picturesque town, creating a small but welcoming community. Cultural attractions are abundant in and around Flores. The city itself is steeped in history, with its well-preserved colonial architecture and close proximity to the ancient Mayan ruins of Tikal, Uaxactun, and Yaxha. Retirees can spend their days exploring these archaeological sites or visiting the local markets where artisans sell traditional Guatemalan crafts. Recreational activities in Flores are largely centered around the outdoors. The surrounding Peten Itza Lake offers opportunities for boating, swimming, and fishing. Nature lovers can also enjoy bird watching or hiking in the nearby jungles and nature reserves. As for nightlife, Flores is more laid-back than some of the larger cities in Guatemala. There are a few bars and restaurants around the central plaza where locals and tourists alike can enjoy a meal or a drink. Some of these establishments offer live music, usually featuring traditional Marimba or Latin rhythms. While it may not have the bustling nightlife of a big city, Flores offers a relaxed and friendly environment for retirees to enjoy their golden years," said a member in Flores, Guatemala.
