Where should I setup a bank account in Gwangju?
We asked expats in Gwangju what banks they use and there advice about banking. They advised...
"Expats considering retirement in Gwangju should be aware that the cost of living is relatively low compared to other major cities in Korea. They should also know that the healthcare system in Korea is excellent and affordable, with many doctors speaking English. It's important to understand that the primary language spoken in Gwangju is Korean, so learning the language would be beneficial, although many younger Koreans do speak English. Gwangju is known for its rich history and culture, so there are plenty of cultural sites and events to enjoy. The city is also surrounded by mountains and national parks, offering plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities. Public transportation in Gwangju is efficient and affordable, with a comprehensive bus system and a subway. However, driving in Korea can be challenging due to the heavy traffic and different driving rules, so it's recommended to use public transportation. Korean cuisine is diverse and delicious, but it can be spicy and may take some getting used to. There are also western food options available in the city. Korea has a high-speed internet and advanced technology, so staying connected with family and friends back home would not be a problem. Lastly, expats should be aware that Korea has four distinct seasons, with hot, humid summers and cold, dry winters. Therefore, appropriate clothing for all seasons is necessary. Before moving, it's also recommended to research about the Korean customs and etiquette, as well as the country's immigration laws and visa requirements," said a member in Gwangju, Korea.
