Prescription Drug Costs

Post New Topic

I am trying to find a source where I can look up the costs of my current medications. I will be moving to Noto, Sicily but would be happy to have prescriptions mailed from anywhere in the EU if necessary. I am trying to determine if the high cost of my current copay is even close to the cost of the drugs out of pocket.

That's not going to happen. EU countries keep tight controls on prescription drugs and you can't get them mail order, as far as I know. You can go to a doctor even if you are not covered by the national health service and receive prescriptions. Then just go to a pharmacy and get the drugs you need. Even without the coverage they are going to be cheaper than in the states. You can even get THC oils and cannabis buds at certain pharmacies. With a prescription. Medical visits to a system GP run about 50 euro per visit. Private doctors cost a bit more.

I pay 10% to 30% of the US cost for prescription drugs. These costs were before I went onto Italian health care. The purchases were made by going to the pharmacy (without a prescription) and asking to purchase the specific drug. In one case the drug was an antibiotic, Z-pac..

My honey and I both use inhaled Ventolin for asthma. In the U.S. my co-payment is $25 for one inhaler. I have a PPO. He pays $20 each. He has an HMO. In Italy, without prescription, it's 8 Eu each....with an apology from the pharmacist that they have to charge me because I don't have a prescription from an Italian doctor. No charge with a prescription! We stock up when we go to Italy!
