Forum Problems?

Post New Topic

This message is for the Forum managers.

I used to receive a fair amount of e-mail notices every day for topics on this forum (Italy). Those pretty much went dark around Aug 1, maybe a bit earlier.

Maybe everyone went on holiday for August? Somehow, I don't believe that. Everyone posting doesn't live here in Italy.

On the forum, I notice a number of posts with zero responses, including a recent one of mine on taxes, which is a common-enough topic that would, presumably, result in some comments or questions.

If others are having this problem, then please advise the managers. I have heard from another expat with similar problems, and that makes me believe the problem is not limited to just me (or "my computer").

We cannot answer if we do not know the question. Please check the site parameters and ensure that things are working.

And if anyone has any info on this, please let us know. Maybe it really is "my computer"! Maybe it's a "settings" thing that I've overlooked. Or maybe, just maybe, everybody WAS on vacation for all of August.

Cheers, John.

I've been experiencing this problem for many months. I did report it but I'm not sure anything was "fixed." I'll often get an email containing a comment on a post but not for the original post itself. It's like stepping into the middle of a conversation. ;-)

Hello John!

I joined about a week or so ago, and have been reading all posts (up to page 40 so far) feverishly. I just posted my first response to Theresa IT about a work around regarding PayPal exchange rates, hit submit...hit it again....nothing. So perhaps there are some ghosts in the machine, albeit, temporarily.

Btw, you and I have much in common...lived in San Diego (recently moving to Temecula), former practicing attorney going to law school at 36 with two young boys and working 30+ hours a week. Although with a more traditional background of history and philosophy, and while having some similar past and previous professions to the law....I ditched it all to become a chef. I could no longer bear the 60-70 hour work weeks having missed a good part of my children's young lives. And now my husband and I are researching the dream of Italia where I still have family. When I refer to him what I have learned from this forum, when I mention your story, I refer to you as "our San Diego friend." :) Thank you, and so many others for your time and wisdom in these posts. It is greatly appreciated.

Auguri! L

Hi lallaw,
Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of advice and experience, and good folks to give it. Many helped me when we made the move, and I am not hesitant to give back if I can. But in truth, I have only the time and a little bit of experience; others have the all the wisdom. : ( But wisdom isn't always enough, and sometimes, only patience gets you past a problem over here.

UPDATE on the forum problems: the floodgates were apparently stuck shut, or nearly so. Things appear back to normal, so maybe someone got the word. Or else everybody came back from vacation.

Cheers, John.
