Deed & taking possession (Abruzzo)

My apologies if this has been covered previously in the forum. So... in final stages of purchase (in Abruzzo), deed is being translated and should be reassured early this week. We are closing remotely and our realtor has POA to sign. I thought/expected that signing the deed would transfer property and my nephew was traveling to stay a couple of months before we could get there for Christmas holidays. Anyway, my realtor sent a message yesterday stating we need to wait another month for our notary to register the deed and we could get in around mid-December.
Does anyone know if we need to wait to take possession while the deed is being registered? My brief research tells me like in the US, pay, sign the deed, get the keys.
Thank you!
