What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Montreux?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Montreux about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Swiss healthcare system, which is known for its high quality of service. You should find a good gynaecologist and midwife who can guide you through the process of pregnancy and childbirth. Secondly, make sure you understand your health insurance coverage. In Switzerland, health insurance is mandatory and it usually covers a large part of the costs associated with pregnancy and childbirth. Thirdly, consider taking prenatal classes. These are a great way to prepare for the birth of your child and to meet other expectant parents. Fourthly, if you're not fluent in French (the local language in Montreux), you might want to find healthcare providers who speak your language. Communication is key during this important time. Fifthly, plan for maternity and paternity leave. In Switzerland, mothers are entitled to at least 14 weeks of paid leave, while fathers are entitled to two weeks. Lastly, once your baby is born, you will need to register the birth at the local civil registry office. You should do this within a few days of the birth. Remember, having a baby in a foreign country can be a challenging experience, but with the right preparation and support, it can also be a very rewarding one," said a member in Montreux , Switzerland.
