What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Milan?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Milan about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"It is important to research and plan to ensure the best possible preparations for having a baby in Milan. Start by finding a trusted doctor who speaks your language and ask him/her to recommend a suitable hospital. Ensure you have an Italian residence permit ("permesso di soggiorno") and make sure to register the birth of your child at the relevant authority and obtain an Italian birth certificate ("atto di nascita"). Obtaining an Italian tax number and enrolling your child in the national health system should also be considered. Logistical decisions, such as choosing a suitable pediatrician and nursery or daycare centre, should also be made ahead of time. Finally, make sure to explore formalities for maintaining dual-citizenship for your child if you're from a country with different rules," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Milan, Italy.
