What advice do you have for expats having a baby in Amalfi?

Answer this Question

We asked expat moms who gave birth in Amalfi about their experiences and advice they have for other moms to be. They said...

"Firstly, it's important to familiarize yourself with the Italian healthcare system. Italy has a high standard of healthcare and maternity services, but it's crucial to understand how it works and what is covered by insurance. Secondly, consider hiring a doula or midwife who speaks both English and Italian. This can help bridge any language barriers during prenatal appointments and the birth itself. Thirdly, start looking for a pediatrician early. Many doctors in Italy have long waiting lists, so it's best to start your search as soon as possible. Fourthly, be aware that Italian law requires you to register the birth within three days. This process can be complex, so it's a good idea to research it in advance. Fifthly, consider taking Italian language classes if you're not already fluent. This will make it easier to communicate with healthcare providers and fill out necessary paperwork. Sixthly, connect with other expat parents in Amalfi. They can provide valuable advice and support, and may be able to recommend English-speaking doctors or midwives. Lastly, embrace the Italian culture. Italians are generally very family-oriented and welcoming to children, so try to enjoy this special time in your life," commented one expat who made the move to Amalfi, Italy.
