What is it like to retire in Sanremo?
We asked retirees what it is like retiring in Sanremo. They said...
"Life for a retiree in Sanremo, can be quite idyllic and relaxed. The city, known for its Mediterranean climate, beautiful gardens, and famous music festival, offers a rich cultural experience. Retirees can enjoy leisurely strolls along the palm-lined Corso Imperatrice, visit the historic Casino di Sanremo, or explore the vibrant local markets. Sanremo is also home to a number of cultural attractions. The city's old town, known as La Pigna, is a maze of narrow streets and alleys filled with medieval houses and small squares. The Russian Orthodox Church, with its distinctive domes, is a must-visit, as is the Villa Ormond with its beautiful park. The Ariston Theatre, which hosts the annual Sanremo Music Festival, is another cultural highlight. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, Sanremo offers plenty of options. The city is surrounded by hills and mountains, perfect for hiking and biking. The Ligurian Sea provides opportunities for swimming, sailing, and fishing. There are also several golf courses in the area. While Sanremo is not known for its nightlife in the same way as larger cities like Rome or Milan, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the evenings. There are numerous restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy local cuisine, as well as bars and clubs where you can listen to live music or dance the night away. As for the expat community, while not as large as in some other Italian cities, it is still quite active. There are several organizations and clubs that cater to expats, providing opportunities to meet new people and get involved in local activities. Many expats are drawn to Sanremo for its relaxed lifestyle, beautiful surroundings, and friendly locals," said a member in Sanremo, Italy.
