Girl needs Advise.. From expats in Colombia

Hi everyone.. Petrified here. First time in my life i I post anything on a forum. I live in NY close to the park on Columbus ave, and have been here for 7 years. Came here to study English and then was supposed to go back home but I didn't go back . I stayed... Only child overprotective mommy.
Next month I'm going back to live in Manizales to be close to my parents as they are getting older but i consider myself an expat because I struggle with a lot of things about my culture. I.E (in high school I was the one challenging anything that was portrait to me as an absolute truth. I was supposed to be polite but always created friendly arguments to make people think....
Well.. I guess the question is how can I go back to my beautiful Colombia and still be able be able to keep my American self.
(Would like to be able to be closer to expect that would be able to understand me better and not be close minded.
Have I been maybe so long on my own that now I'm being judgmental about my friendly roots?
