Dating in Colombia

It´s a rainy day today, thank heavens, and i´m catching up on posts.
In an earlier thread someone asked me what became of my former girlfriend the dentist. I thought that´s kind of a personal question and wasn´t planning to answer, then thought better of the idea and thought I would respond in a sort of generic way.
Dating here in Colombia is similar in many respects to dating in the US. You meet someone and strike up a conversation and find you have a few common interests so you start going out a few times. Usually the glow fades after a few days or weeks and you move on to someone new. Sometimes a dating relationship will last for a few months until one of the two moves on to someone new.
That happens a lot here in Colombia, so it´s no surprise when I speak of former girlfriends. I´m still Facebook friends with most of them.
There are some similarities between US and Colombia, but there are some startling differences that I can point out.
First, the women here are in many cases healthier than their US counterparts. About 75% of men and women in US are overweight and 35% are obese.
The US is 9th place fattest country in the world, and 1st place fattest industrialized country.
Comparatively, Colombia is 46% overweight and 14% obese. Ranks 38th fattest and 53rd obese.
It is easier for me to meet women in Colombia who are fit and trim, with nice figures and who like to do outdoor activities with me. Walking is so common here, almost everyone does it. Compared to the US where fat people will circle the parking lot endlessly looking for a parking spot near the door.
It´s easier to meet pretty women here, too. Partly its a factor of age, since younger women are more available to date older men here. but also its a factor of diet and exercise and good genes. Don´t get me wrong, there are millions of pretty women in the US.....it just seems to me there are a higher percentage of them here.
Attitude is another factor here. These women seem more open to the idea of dating whereas it seems sometimes that women in the US actually look for reasons NOT to date a man.
I´m reminded of one survey a few years ago when American men were asked what they looked for in a woman they would want to date. The men gave 3 things they wanted (attractive, friendly, interesting), and five things they didn´t want. The women answered the same question with 3 things they wanted (financial security, attractive, fun) and then listed 300 different things they didn´t want.
Comparatively, in the US I was meeting about half a dozen new women every year. Here in Colombia I meet one or two new ones every week.
Age is not such a factor in Colombia. In the US the women want to date men within just a few years of their own age. In Colombia women are willing to date men twice or even three times their own age. Not just dating older expats, but also dating older Colombianos. It´s just not such a thing here to be many years difference in age, nobody pays much attention to it.
