What advice would you offer others about banking as an expat in your country? What do you wish you had known about banking when you first arrived?

I opened an Intercam account in Mazatlán. Easy to open with passport, proof of address, residency card and one reference. The online app is easy to use. I can deposit a check from my US bank account and funds are available within 1-3 hours. I withdraw funds from the Intercam ATM in pesos. Current ATM limit is 8,000 pesos per day. However, I can withdraw at the teller window up to 20,000 pesos. [One problem is] not being able to use Intercam ATM card to make purchases. However, the Intercam agent in Mazatlán told me i could call main number and get authorization to use it to make purchases. I have not done this so i cannot verify if this is true.
