Submitted by ResearchTeam

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Patzcuaro

If a friend of yours living in the same country were expecting a baby, what advice would you give her?

1. Make sure to prepare for all of the necessary paperwork, such as getting a Birth Certificate and applying for a Mexican birth and/or residence permit for your baby. 2. Look into the local health care options and learn about the different medical professionals in the area to ensure your baby has access to quality and affordable healthcare. 3. Find meaningful ways to focus on the cultural aspects of Patzcuaro, and find activities for your child that involve the local culture as well as other families with children. 4. Make sure to check the water quality of your home and research the best water filtration system options for your home in case you are not supplied with municipally treated water. 5. Take the time to ask locals and expats in the area for advice regarding expat-friendly services and resources, such as childcare and educational support. 6. Take some time to get to know your neighbours and ask how they handle the challenges of parenting in Patzcuaro. 7. Find productive and meaningful ways to get involved in your local community, such as volunteer work or social clubs. 8. Surround yourself and your baby with love and support from friends, family, and your local community.
