An Expat Talks about Living in Tequisquiapan , Mexico
What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?
Tequisquiapan
Describe how you "dreamed" expat life would be before you moved overseas. Please provide as much detail as possible.
I have lived in Thailand for the past 10 years. I came back to the U.S. in January before the pandemic started. My plan was to visit Mexico to decide if I wanted to relocate back to North America preferably Mexico or return to Bangkok. I came to Tequisquiapan in mid March to visit a friend. My plant was to stay in Tequisquiapan for 2 weeks than visit San Miguel de Allendale and Puerto Vallarta. Then decide if I wanted to live here in or travel back to Thailand. About this time the virus started to become well know and all the borders in S.E. Asia were closed to foreigners. Transportation within Mexico was also restricted so I was stuck in Tequisquiapan. I have been here now 5 months. It's a very nice town quiet and crime free. The only problem is if you dont speak Spanish or have a Mexican partner it can be very difficult. There is not a big ex pat population here and everything is written in Spanish. Conclusion is it's a beautiful city but the la gauge is a barrier to expats
How has your expat experience met the expectations you dreamed about before you moved abroad?
No as I said I lived in S.E. Asia for many years and there is not so much of a language barrier. I thought it would be easy to meet expats here. But with virus there is not much socializing
