Friends & accommodation in Rio?

Hi all,
I'm a 35 year old UK man running away from the UK's weather, taxes and monotony. I hope to be moving to Rio in March to start my new life and experience everything Brazil has to offer. What i am finding trouble with is the cost of apartments. It not that i dont have enough money, its just that rents are as expensive as London and it seems a terrible waste seeing as i hope to spend a lot of time outside! Is there anyone on here who would consider renting a room to me for a few months while i find my feet, settle in, learn Portuguese and decide if i will stay for the long term future? My budget is between $300 to $500 a month.
I'm a sensible, good natured, considerate, practical, intelligent, hardworking, great humoured guy and very easy to live with. Sorry if this looks like a CV, but i'm sure you know where i'm coming from.
High speed internet is vital for me as i'm a currency trader, but that's all i really need, but if you live near a surfing beach that would be the cherry because i've surfed for 20 years and plan to surf a lot there.
Even if you don't have the room i would appreciate any advice you may be able give regarding room rental somewhere.
Thanks for reading and who knows ...........
PS ... i'm also a qualified surf instructor and would be very happy teach you and your kids if you have them!
