Hi guys,
My friend and I went to the Brazilian Consulate in New York to obtain a CPF number prior to arriving in Brazil. Although it was supposed to be done online due to covid, they realized they never updated their website and we were able to get it done in person. We received a printout of our CPF numbers. Now that we have arrived in Brazil, we tried to get cell phone numbers and even give our CPF numbers to the cashiers at the supermarket , and it says that the numbers are invalid. Is there an extra step that foreigners need to take in order to have their CPF number show up in the system? I came down here to open a bank account and I fear that when i go to the bank tomorrow, I am going to encounter the same situation.
Thanks

Hi it’s a common thing in brasil with cpf numbers even brasilians suffer the same problem firstly try to confirm you cpf on line ( as having your cpf does not say it is not blocked)even though you did receive your cpf no it is usually blocked until you manage to use it for the first time on line is your best bet when you do unblock it It pays to use your no (cpf). When buying large items in brasil ir electrical goods. As it will be blocked again. I hope I have been of some help sorry if I have made it sound complicated it not really Tom
