Moving to Bogota (Hi-Jacked Version)

Diego, I wanted to get back to your thoughful post; things have been very busy here, so it's just taken a while.

Despite what we might think about how a particular word is used by various sources, there are standards for grammatical and intellectual concepts that pretty well define words and ideas. Misogyny exists on a broad continuum of ideas and behaviors and, like many words, can apply to different things. But I believe it is real, and that it is destructive, and I believe it is the responsibility of men - as sons and lovers of women - to understand the notion, and work to eradicate it - from our hearts, minds and from the world; some workshop leader said to me many years ago - probably quoting Buddha or somebody - "The truth is the truth, whether you believe it or not."

Short story, here: When I read your thoughts more or less debating definitions, criticizing the overuse of misogyny, it seemed to like like you go on to almost precisely illustrate my points; you make references to "masculine" and "feminine" as if you know - or as if there is some absolute, definitive, down-from-god definition of those terms, and clear - some might say, rigid - demarcation of roles for folks in those categories. What is "masculine?" What is "feminine?" Are there rules? Examinations? ID cards? Anyway, we'll just agree to disagree on that portion of the discussion.

I don't think "equality" has anything to do with anatomy, I don't think women who want equal opportunity, equal pay, and respectful non-sexual treatment are imagining or referring to the anatomy they would prefer to have. It sounds to me like you almost dismiss any discussion of social equality as being un-achievable, more or less "because we're all different, anyway." I think it's something we should all agree on, that all people have the same rights to equal treatment and respect, free of our personal biases and expectations - simply to contemplate that, and strive for that may be the best we can do, but I believe we should do it.
