Avoid Medellin For a Year or Two!

If you are thinking of visiting Medellin, put it off for a couple of years! The outgoing Mayor has brought Medellin to it's knees, and it will be the same well after he has left Office next year.

There are major roadworks in the City where the new Tram system is being installed, and has already overrun by a large margin, and yesterday began the closures on the Autopista Sur, for the start of his pet project 'Parque del Rio' (River Park), which is going to involve putting the motorway underground, and a lovely park for all the homeless and thieves to move into above. Unfortunately these closures mean that all traffic is being sent into the City or other built up areas, and the people of Medellin are not happy.

Getting around the area now means a day out, and if you are in a position of having to travel for work you have to allow a minimum of an hour extra each way.

There were reports yesterday of people sat for at least an hour and not having moved. This is exacerbated by the fact that the Alcadia arranged for all the alternative routes to be repaired before the closures begun, but unfortunately it was all last minute and those roadworks are still ongoing.

I think Twitter traffic had increased greatly, as a result of disgruntled residents. Not only because of the problems of shutting a motorway (albeit an excuse for one), especially as it is meant to be the main route for all Transport across the country, but the cost as well, which is billions in Tax Payers money, and then they announce that it will become a Toll road, so people will be paying twice.

After all this, what is the park going to be called... after the Mayor of course!!
