American possibly gone missing in Medellin

this could be either the truth, a hoax or a scam........I´m skeptical of these requests for money when they appear in this fashion....what about US Embassy, National Police, the girlfriend and her family, surely they can find this dude, or verify that he is in fact missing. That he has a Russian first name and a Mexican second name and the awkward wording and phrasing and the high price of the ticket are all also causing my skepticism.

He is an english teacher abroad in Medellin, Colombia. Sunday he went to church with his girlfriend and a few friends. That Sunday they took a trip to the farm that afternoon, stayed for the night and Monday atfernoon he went missing. The airfare it's self is $1,235 in such sort notice. Which I can't afford to buy a plane ticket so I really could use any help I could get.
I'm in desperate need to go to Colombia and help look for my brother. I can't sit here and doing nothing. Thank you to whoever can contribute
