Keeping on topic

Today I made what I felt was a useful comment related to a new forum subject. I then ticked the box to receive any updates on the theme which is of interest to me too.

Since then, I have been receiving emails all day advising me of 'updates' only to find that each time it is just a few individuals chatting with each other.

I just wondered if some of you guys realise how annoying this is for those that would simply like to use this forum for it's intended purpose.

Not only is it frustrating for someone who has an interest in the topic now, but also for anyone who finds the topic in a Google search at a later date and then has to wade through all the unrelated chat looking for topic related information.

Surely if you used private messages to chat, the actual forum would be a more useful resource for everyone else?

If you don't understand what I mean, check out the topic, "Where do you get your news?" Currently 31 posts and the last 20 or so are all unrelated chat.

I know I'm new to this site, but I'm just saying, if people kept on topic and used private messages for chat, maybe more people would find this a more worthwhile resource.
