Colombian Cast society

The wife and I were having dinner at a nice restaurant here in NYC and in walks a couple that was clearly out of place. In other words, they were not dressed right, nor did they have a clue how to act. It brought to mind the distinct category of social classes in Colombia.

On several occasions, I witnessed people In Bogota denied entry to hotels, restaurants and nightclubs. This was purely on their appearance and perceived lower “stratus”. On one occasion, a Colombian friend came to meet me at a restaurant in Parque 93 and was not allowed inside. I had to come to the door and insist that he was with me. If it where me? I would have pissed! To say the least, but he took it in stride and it did not seem to bother him.

Back to the couple here in NYC… they were treated kindly and with respect. They were obviously uncomfortable throughout dinner and looked shocked when they got the check, but it appears they were celebrating or treating themselves.

Colombians are socially mindful to an extreme that is discriminatory.
