Colombia's downturn?

I’ve been hosting a Colombian buddy who is visiting NYC and confided his feelings regarding current life in Colombia.

He is a successful Colombian businessman who is disillusioned with the government and is looking to make a move to the U.S. where his kids are living.

He told me that Colombians are not happy about President Santos, crime is on the rise, and many companies are pulling up stakes due to diminished economic activity, taxes and drop in oil. He further stated that the government has made it considerably harder for him to take his money out of the country which has complicated his situation and is feeling very anxious.

I was perplexed and went online to research Colombia’s current economic barometer and was able to corroborate most of his assertions, which leaves me uneasy because it’s not what I’m seeing when I research real estate and read the comments on this forum.

I can only conclude that I have to wait and see for myself on my return. Different people see different things.
