Trip Report Eje Cafetero

Left last weekend for a first time visit to the coffee zone. Medellin to Santa Rosa was at best a grueling trip in a busetta. Heavy truck traffic and road construction made the trip about 5 1/2 hours. Great scenery but next time for about 100usd more or less I will fly. The thermales in Santa Rosa (or a few miles away) were awesome. Beautiful countryside and great mineral springs with waterfalls and very hot mineral water. Spent most of the afternoon and evening in the water meeting some great Colombianos.
After returning to the Finca met a couple from Bogota and decided to change plans from going to Finlandia and ended up in the National Coffee Park. Great place especially for families. Did not take in the rides but walked around and enjoyed the museum and the Coffee show which was well worth the trip in itself.
Perirea and Armenia were not really impressive cities but to be fair I did not spend much time in either. I think Medellin is much cleaner and well laid out, but I am partial to Medellin.
The hospitality in the region was excellent everywhere I went people were friendly and could not do enough for me.
The Finca I stayed in was excellent with farm animals and fresh breakfast included with all ingredients from the farm or region. The coffee was fantastic grown on the farm!!! PM me if you would like to know the name of the Finca we stayed in.
I would definitely go back to explore more places like Salento and Finlandia but next time I will take the short flight from Medellin in the morning and save the travel time.
