Please, please, please! Don’t get offended if I ask something asked before....
I thought I was informed enough from Colombia embassy website, Medellin Guru and some FB group pages to apply for a retiaree visa in Colombia, without visiting even once. The plan was to get the visa while still in US, obtain Cédula and health insurance right away, on arrival and reside in Colombia most of the time, and explore country and the region within our budget.
So, we placed the application and went to Orlando consulate to pay and review the application. We were rejected, as we were quoted a requirement of $2,600+ as 10x of minimal wage in Colombia for each person. One of us is just retired at 62, and another will in December, but unfortunately we are not even close to the required minimum, even though we have shown our 401k savings.
We were told by 2nd secretary of consulate that we have to qualify each separately, and not as family, as one primary and another as dependent.
He also sad that only Emabassy and consulate employees qualified for income x3 of min Colombian.
Are these new changes in laws ? Or I missed something?
