Disposing a Lifetime's worth of possessions

I'm curious, how did those who moved to CO permanently, i.e., not a second home, handle getting rid of their possessions?

I've been selling, or trying to sell all my stuff in anticipation of my move to Colombia around May 1 - probably May 3. I hired a couple of people to help about a month ago and they have been invaluable, My stuff is listed on numerous sites and we've had an open house. Still, lots of stuff isn't moving, including much of my furniture which is valuable.

I now have a full plate before I move and don't have the necessary time to devote to this endeavor.

I'm coming to the conclusion that much of my stuff is going to end up with the Salvation Army. I'm not willing to spend money on storage, which would be a waste. So, I'm curious, did others have a similar problem? How did you handle it?
