My visa experience

For various reasons, I wanted to get my visa in the US before settling in Colombia. I just completed the process. If circumstances were different, I may have waited until I got to Colombia and waited 6 months for my tourist visa to expire.

I used attorney Christoph Moller. I only have nice things to say about him, especially after having a sour experience with another attorney recommended on this forum. He is tenacious, efficient, spells out the fees at the onset and handles the process personally. There were no surprises. However, expect to pay $100+ more than other services. Personally, it was worth it to me if only for peace of mind.

I obtained my visa through the NYC consulate. Things seemed to get lost in the shuffle there, but I was able to straighten everything out by paying a visit. Jennie is in charge of processing visas and was extraordinarily helpful and friendly. She will probably be at the consulate for years to come unlike others that work there. Most employees seem to be in the US temporarily. Jennie has made NYC her home.

The entire process took less than 4 weeks and it would have been a week less if my application didn't end up in outer space at the consulate.

The only real leg work I had to do other than fixing things at the consulate, was getting my pension benefits (SS) letter notarized and apostiled, not a big deal.

I'm glad it's over!
