Qualifying for EPS basic health insurance

I got a question on a PM from Cruisechef, but there is no way to respond to his message on PM. This site is really antique technology!

The question is, ¨what do I need to get EPS Basic insurance?¨

First, you need a Visa, which means you are living in Colombia for at least 3 months or longer and have applied for one of the 3 different categories of visas, and one of the 21 sub-categories.

You can receive the Visa from the ministry of Foreign Relations in Bogota or from the Colombian Consulate in your home country.

You have 15 days from date of Visa to go to Migracion Colombia in your city and apply for the Cedula, which is the national identification card.

OR, if you received the Visa from the Colombian Consulate un your home country you have 15 days from arriving in Colombia to apply for the Cedula.

Not applying for the Cedula within the 15 days will subject you to a penalty of 1/2 month minimum salary, about 400,000 COP.

Once you receive the Cedula you can go to the EPS of your choice and apply for the basic insurance. You will have to take a physical and wait one month for coverage.
