Td Bank in Canada vs KOHO or Stack

I am still waiting for my Stack Mastercard. I suspect there is a high demand on the card. I have used the virtual Stack card and it has giving me the exact exchange rate I see online with those exchange rate pages. I can only vouch for online purchases and Stack is a keeper is still a keeper if the physical card ever shows up.

While waiting for the Stack card I ordered a KOHO Visa card. It arrived in only one week to my Canadian address. It has the “Plus” symbol on the back. KOHO normally charges 1.5 % commission on the exchange rate but has 0 % commission promotion on exchange rates until September 22. If you opt for the premium KOHO visa, the rate continues to be 0% commission after September 22.

Yesterday at the Centro Commercial Buena Vista in Santa Marta, there is only one ATM that provides cash with no service charge which is Banco Caja Social.

On my TD Canada Trust debit card I have no foreign ATM fees as I have the top tier checking
account.

I withdrew 700 mil COP on each card.

TD Canada Trust Visa debit: $286.21 CAD
KOHO prepaid Visa Card: $276.52 CAD

The KOHO card actually gave me a better rate than the exchange rate I saw online. I suspect because it was a Sunday and the online rate was not updated.

I also made a 100 mil and a 70 mil withdrawal with the KOHO card and it did not affect the exchange rate. No longer does one need to make large withdrawals at the ATMs in Colombia to save on fees. With a no fee ATM bank like BCS or Colpatria and a 0% exchange rate prepaid card, one can do on-demand small withdrawals without any additional expense. The TD card now stays in the drawer as a back-up card.
