Thread creep on another topic prompted this new thread for my random thoughts.

I've read that some folks will buy a one way ticket to where they want to go, then, on the day of the trip they buy a refundable one way to return home. After leaving the airport at their destination they cancel the one way return ticket and get their money back. Then they travel by bus to the next country and later from whichever country they find themselves in, they buy a one way home. This seems like it would have a very high probability of working without problems and this does not seem like particularly immoral behavior to me. Odds are there is no law against this but I wouldn't want to have to explain why it was ok to an annoyed judge. "Well you see your honor, the laws of your country were inconvenient so I found a way around them...."

When I'm considering my options for what to do in any particular situation one test I use is: How would I explain this to a judge. I picture myself, in a suit, saying, "Well you see your honor...." That has ruined a lot of otherwise excellent plans I have made.
